The Donkey Speaks: It’s a Sign

April 30th, 2012 by Kathleen Thompson, Communications Director

The response to the “Party for the Party” Gala and the Senate District Conventions is a sign of things to come this summer and fall, leading into the November 6 general election. We are on the right track. We surpassed our aggressive fundraising goal at the gala and we had hundreds of Democrats come out on a beautiful Saturday morning for the business of Democratic Party organizing. A special thanks to Lee Henderson, for his work on the gala and our four senate district convention chairs Linda Cozzen, Randy Daniels, Byron Sibbet and Marvin Sutton. Thanks also to all of our generous donors and our army of volunteers:

Angela Abram, Julie Abrams, Dick Abrams, Shirley Adams, Trista Allen, Emma Allen, Marva Allums, Berrolyn Anderson, Ollie Anderson, Jay Anthis, Linda Anthis, Paul Belisch, John AJ Boeglin, Mark Brain, Marion Brantley, Connor Brantley, Raymond Brantley, Rena Brown, Vila Campagna, Richard Canada, Andy Caves, Ellen Chase, Joe Chavez, Aracely Chavez, Carol Cordell, Doug Dehne, Diana DeLeon, Mary Edwards, Carolyn English, Steve Epstein, Ruthie Foster, Esmeralda Frias, Roy Griffin, Blanca Gonzales, Felipe Gutierrez, Rowdy Guzman, Melinda Hamilton, Nelda Harris, Chris Hilbert, Stephen Prescott Harris II, Rodney Henry, Chris Hightower, Harriet Irby, Shavers Jackson, Stephanie Jackson, Zac Johnson, Cindy James, Dee Jay Johannesson, Jana Johnson, Lynn Johnson, Stan Johnson, Jimmy Killingsworth, Karen Kologe, Susie Lattimore, Sean Lynch, Earnest Mackey, Donna C. Speaking of signs, our Texans for Obama yard signs are in. Our Tarrant County, union-made signs are available at your TCDP headquarters for a $12 donation. You can pick up bumper stickers and buttons while you’re here too. Our three-pack of yard sign, bumper sticker and button is available for only $20 and every cent goes toward re-electing President Obama and turning out the Democratic base for straight ticket voting right here in Tarrant County.

Voters are calling the TCDP headquarters daily with questions about voting. Let me answer those here, and please pass this information on to your friends and family.

  • By court order, voter registration cards were mailed last week. Unless you’ve moved, you do not need to fill out a new registration card. If you have moved, download a card here and check the change of address box.
  • You don’t need anything new to vote in the upcoming May municipals or the May 29 Texas Primary. There is some confusion over the Voter ID law passed by the Republican super majority in the last legislative session. That law is in the court system now and has not gone into effect, so you don’t need anything new to vote this year.

It’s been a great couple of weeks for the Tarrant County Democratic Party. Thanks for being part of it!

Gratefully,
Steve

P.S. Please mark your calendar now for our Saturday, June 2, County Canvass. In coordination with Organizing for America, we will knock on targeted Tarrant County doors to push the straight ticket message to Democratic voters. Training and food will be provided at the TCDP headquarters, beginning at 9:30 a.m., leaving the headquarters at 10:00 a.m. and finishing at 12:30 p.m. We are solely responsible for building and turning out the Democratic Base in Tarrant County. This is the first of many efforts to meet our responsibility and our goal of turning out the base and increasing straight ticket voting by 15,000 votes.

Maxwell Memo: Tomorrow’s Senate District Conventions

April 20th, 2012 by Kathleen Thompson, Communications Director

Dear Friend,

Last night, our gala keynote speaker, Senator Kirk Watson, praised the hardworking members of the Tarrant County Democratic Party. It’s well deserved. We are on track to meet our early goals for our 2012 Roadmap to Victory and its aggressive plans for this cycle.

Tomorrow is another huge day for Tarrant County. Our Senate District Conventions for SD 9, SD 10, SD 12 and SD 22 will be held at Trimble Technical High School, 1003 W. Cannon Street, Fort Worth, 76104. Trimble Tech is across the street from Harris Hospital, at the corner of Henderson and Cannon. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., and the general assembly begins at 10:00 a.m., featuring keynote speaker Senator Wendy Davis. Senate District Conventions will be called to order at 11:00 a.m.

Below is a map of the Trimble Tech building with notations of SD caucus locations.

A special thanks to our Trimble Tech hosts, the FWISD and our numerous volunteers that will setup, take down and make sure the event runs smoothly as well as our many caucus and committee chairs. The work of these conventions couldn’t be done without you.

Thanks,
Steve

Handicap parking is located in the two staff lots immediately in front of the school and wheelchair only parking is located behind the main building, accessible from College.

Donuts and coffee will be available in the cafeteria. Food trucks will also be on site.

The Donkey Speaks: Let’s “Party for the Party” on Thursday Night

April 17th, 2012 by Kathleen Thompson, Communications Director
Dear Friend,

I am delighted at the response we are receiving for this Thursday night’s “Party for the Party” Gala. It’s is our major spring fundraising event and this year, we will have the largest attendance to date, and with that, the most money we have ever raised from a single event. I credit the reason for that as being the intense interest that our contested Primary races, as well as the looming Presidential race, has created. It is becoming dramatically obvious that much is at stake for our county, our state, and our country.

The Democratic Party in Tarrant County is beginning to flex its muscle with enthusiasm stirred by the re-election campaigns of President Obama and Senator Wendy Davis, the races for the newly created Congressional District 33, the newly created House District 101 and Democratic candidates running in races from Southwest to Northeast Tarrant County.

Candidates, clubs and active Democrats have bought their tickets in unprecedented numbers. We expect at least 400 attendees and I hope you are one of them. If you haven’t reserved your ticket, do so today.

Keynote speaker Senator Kirk Watson, the Tarrant County Democratic Party staff and I hope to see you Thursday night, April 19, at 7:00 p.m., at the Historic Hilton Hotel, 815 Main Street, Fort Worth.

This event is made possible by our 2012 Roadmap to Victory Sponsors and our 2012 Roadmap to Victory Major Benefactor, Mr. Bobby Patton.

Thanks,
Steve
