Maxwell Memo: Victory for Senator Davis and SD 10!

I’m writing you this morning with great news for Tarrant County and Senator Wendy Davis. Yesterday afternoon, Senator Davis and the Texas Attorney General reached a settlement on the Senate District 10 map that restores the original configuration created in 2001. Last year Texas Republicans violated the Voting Rights Act by purposefully mangling the minority vote, stripping African-American voters out of southeast Tarrant County and Hispanic voters from north Tarrant County, thereby packing these voters into two different districts-one that would run north to Denton County, and the other running south past Waco. Make no mistake about it — Senator Davis was targeted because she is a strong voice for public education and Tarrant County’s hard working families. Restoring these important communities of voters allows them the opportunity to elect the candidate of their choice in future elections.

Senator Davis didn’t back down, taking her fight for Tarrant County all the way to the Supreme Court.

Thanks to Senator Davis and her Senate District 10 partners, State Representative Marc Veasey, County Commissioner Roy Brooks, and Constable Sergio De Leon. Now that redistricting is over for Senate District 10, Senator Davis will continue to fight for everyday Texans on issues that impact all of us, and real emergencies, like education, health care and infrastructure.

It’s a great day for Tarrant County and the Tarrant County Democratic Party!
